Bristol residents are being encouraged to get active this spring by signing up to the next round of Local Tennis Leagues.
Local Tennis Leagues is a flexible and sociable league for women and men aged 18 and over. Played on public tennis courts around the city, the league is organised into groups of similarly matched players who then arrange their own matches at a convenient time to fit in with their busy schedules.
This fresh approach to recreational competition saw over 800 people pick up a racket to play in leagues across the South West in 2016.
Julie Jones, LTA Regional Tennis Participation Manager, said: “Local Tennis Leagues are a fantastic opportunity to play some recreational, competitive tennis and to meet new people. It doesn’t matter whether you’re a complete beginner, returning to the game after years out, or fancy yourself as the next Andy Murray or Jo Konta; the Bristol League is a great chance for people to play tennis more often.”
There are nine primary public access venues situated across Bristol which are used for Local Tennis League matches including Canford Park, City Academy and Eastville Park.
Entry into a round of Local Tennis Leagues is £15 and usually consists of five to seven matches over an eight week period. The winner of the group will receive a certificate, tennis prizes and, where possible, promotion to the group above.
The deadline for signing up to the next round of the Bristol League is Monday 27 February, with matches taking place between Thursday 2 March and Wednesday 26 April.

ABOUT THE LTA:
The Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) is the National Governing Body for tennis in Great Britain, responsible for developing and promoting the sport, with a mission to get more people playing tennis more often. It does this under the consumer brand of British Tennis, by working with a broad range of partners and over 25,000 volunteers, to grow the game in communities, clubs and schools. The LTA represents the interests of over 350,000 British Tennis Members, men and women, girls and boys across the country, playing on more than 23,000 courts. The LTA runs and supports a network of 11,500 approved tournaments for players of all ages, the corner-stones of which are the premier grass court events leading up to Wimbledon, held in Nottingham, Birmingham, Queen’s Club-London and Eastbourne, all title sponsored by Aegon. The LTA works with many delivery partners to grow the sport across the country. One of these is its charitable entity, the Tennis Foundation, to provide a tennis provision for more than 20,000 schools, disadvantaged youth as well as promoting tennis as an inclusive sport for anyone with a disability.
